Good morning from snowy central Wisconsin. We have had a light dusting this morning, but the wind is still pretty strong. Hopefully everyone is getting a chance to go out and hunt. The deer rut is starting. We have been seeing alot more sign in the woods now days. I thought I'd write a couple of notes, that your taxidermist will appreciate, on what to do now that you have gotten that buck of a life time.
1. Don't drag it out without a sled or some type of trailer. By dragging it on its hide you have a chance to wreck the hair on the hide. This is not the end of the world as most taxidermist can get new hides, but its not the hide from your deer.
2. Get the meat and hide cooled as soon as possible. This will keep the meat and hide from rotting.
3. Be careful hanging your deer by the horns. This will stretch the neck some giving it a thinner appearance.
4. Be careful on how long you let it hang. This will dry out the hide making it harder for your taxidermist to work with, possible ruining the cape.
That's all for now. Good luck hunting this season.

Just a short post today. Bear hunting is over, so hopefully you were successful in your hunt. The early youth hunt in Wisconsin was last weekend, with the herd reduction ("T"-zone) this weekend. It seem time just fly's by this time of the year, so go out enjoy the autumn and get a little hunting in.
